This difference in numbers would also change the effectiveness of these knitting needles in terms of their size.  The difference in the numbers in both these countries can be represented as the American measurement numbers are low for needles and this means that they will have a largest diameter whereas as far as British is concerned it is vice-versa. The higher the number, the smaller the diameter of the needle would be. Therefore, for that matter you need to look up a knitting needle conversion chart which is available in the market and then according to that chart you tend to select the knitting needles with the correct needle size.

Moreover in knitting needles there is also a concept of gauge which again forms a very important part as far as the knitting needles are concerned. The gauge represents the number of stitches in a given length. This is the concept which is related to the pattern you have chosen and the kind of end design that will be delivered after its completion. Knitting needles are also available in different shapes as you can choose from the circular and straight needles. Some people circular ones as they feel more comfortable while using them however, some people prefer straight knitting needles. They are constructed of different materials including steel, wood or bamboo. All you need to do is you just have to select the one that suits you the most and as per your pattern design demands.
